Fable Weyr <-Link
On a more knowledgable Pern where AIVAS was never found, times have changed drastically. It has now been over four thousand turns from when Pern wasfirst founded, and the times of the great weyrs- Fort, Benden, Telgar, High Reaches, and others have passed. Instead they have been compacted into four large ones spread out in the North and a single blooming, beautiful one on the Southern continent...
Fable Weyr has always been a bit unorthodox in its ways and beliefs. Set in a lush, jungle-covered montainous area, it has been described as Pern's own paradise multiple times. Perched atop a tall, steep cliff that overlooks a raging river is a large area cleared of the rainforest. this is the Weyrbowl, and where the barracks are situated. The weyrs for the dragonriders are the natural large caverns on the side of the tall and long cliff. One of these such caves is filled with odd stones that emit both light and heat and a powdery black sand; it is here where the dragon eggs are laid to harden, while the trapped hatchlings inside grow, awaiting the day when they are strong enough to break free to their Bondeds. About a mile away from Fable Weyr a patch of forest is cleared, and here adolescent dragon learn to chew fireston and flame. Even the queens chew, since a couple generations back Pern discovered that dragons can either clutch or not clutch, and firestone has no effect...
But now, the peaceful lull between thread comes to a close, and a large object tht is believed to be a comet approaches from the east...
Cricket Mils sighed, pushing a red lock out of her eyes. Her eyes were kept firmly on the controls of the ship, waiting for just the right moment to awake her passengers. They were from the planets Kahareen and Queshik: two overpopulated planets in the same system that were to be doomed by an astroid belt. They had been colonized a long time ago, along with her current destination, Pern...
Both planets had been colonized at the same time as Pern. But their technoloy had advanced, and they had violated rules such as the Pure Human Act. No, thought Mils, They had to make themselves into superhumans...and give themselves fantasy animals! This related to the guerrier, shapehifters, and the self-induced werewolves of Kahareen. She sighed and shook her head, glad that she was from one of Quesik's continents, Tovi...
THoughts switched back to the animals that were also being carried. They had the gentically engineered unicorns from her homeland, and the red-orange birds called pheonixes from Kahareen, which had been created form the vicious eagles called Haro. Also the natural three-tailed 'gryphons' from Tashier, Queshik, the adorable Dekats from Deril (also one of Queshik' continents) and their cousins, the Lyphs. Some had also brought the thought-capable and elusive sea serpants from Kahareen, along with Untanas which were gentle cat-like beings, and a couple of the deer-goat looking Lanorra. DNA had also been transported of the Veteena, to revive after landing.
Again Mils glanced at the panel, before switching a switch for better lighting, and a flashing blue one which would wake up those in the shapeshifter compartment in a few hours. Then she sat back, relaxing...and worying. Pern was said to be uninhabitable since they had sent signals there, and no one had ever replied. Still she had this uneasy sense that somehing might be there...She heard some stirs where the shapeshifters were situated and set the ship into autopilot, going to go check in upon them...
