"I'm really sorry about all this..." Adair apologized, still pressing on the wound. "I should have taken the second mage."

He was apologizing. That shamed her further. The idea that another should fight her battles, should apologize for a wound, should worry about such a minor trouble... It was shameful. Was she really so weak?

She looked very angry, which made Adair feel very guilty.

"Don't look like that," she said softly. She hadn't meant to look angry, and she wasn't angry with him, she was angry with herself for being so... pathetic, and useless, even to herself.

"I really am sorry, you were probably relying on me..."

The color, or what was left of it, drained from Quynh's face. A slap. She still wasn't angry with him, since he probably didn't understand. Or maybe he did, and he was pointing it out. Relying on him. Relying on anyone. Shameful.

((No, what he said was a slap in the face to her pride.))

Adair's eyes widened as he noticed the color drain from her face. "Whats wrong?" he asked worriedly.

Tight-lipped, she shook her head. "Nothing." She pulled back. The wound still bled, but not too much. "I apologize for the trouble. I'm going home." She turned and walked away, stepping over the recumbent forms of the gang. Once she was out of his sight, she looked around to make sure he wasn't nearby, and then leaned heavily against a tree. Just for a minute. Then she'd go on. Just for a minute.

Adair was of course right behind her. "Look, you're really hurt, its not a sign of weakness to acknowledge that."

"YAH!" Scared out of her mind by his abrupt appearance when she was sure he hadn't been there a second ago, Quynh jumped, and fell over.

Adair caught her at the last minute, instinctively moving his body to protect her wound from hitting anything.

Automatically, Quynh kicked up and back and, in a contortionist-level move, kicked him in the face over her head. Then she wrenched away and realized who she had just kicked in the face. Ignoring her side, which was back to bleeding heavily, she turned around and looked at him. He had a footprint on his face. "Sorry." At least she wasn't wearing heels.

Adair chuckled, rubbing his nose which was bleeding slightly, then tore a large strip from his white shirt and applied it to her reopened wound.
