During the four months that Sonya, who had taken to being called Sunny because, for unknown reasons, Squishy couldn't manage to communicate the name 'Sonya' and said 'Sunny' instead, had been at the Guild, she had managed to wreak utter havoc. And to set a lot of things on fire. But on this particular day, nothing had been set on fire. At all. Which was very strange.
Ceredin, Ary, and Amy had been gone for three months. No one had seen or heard from them in that time.
It was a very dark night. At midnight.
"Psst. Navek!" Thistlen poked Navek in the side. Her voice was hoarse. "Wake up. Right now. It's important."

Navek gave a small grunt, slightly annoyed at whoever was disturbing his sleep. He never liked being woken up in the middle of the night. He turned his head in the dirrection of the voice he heard and slowly opened his eyes, wanting to poke the person right back, somewhat hard. However, that thought vanished once he actually saw who it was. "Thistlen?!" He exclaimed in a hushed whisper, very surprised that she was here as he suddenly became alert and quickly sat up in bed.

"No, it's Tessa. Who do you think it is?" Thistlen, who had never talked back in her life, was surprisingly, well, angry and defiant. It was impossible to see her properly, and she angled the left side of her face away. "Get up. I figured out how to get us out of here. And them."

Wow. That comment was a bit surprising. Nevertheless, he quickly got out of bed. "Sorry, but what exactly are you talking about?" He asked her, confused as to what was going on and hoping for an explanation.

Thistlen made an exhasperated whistling noise. "You know how we can't leave? Well, I figured out how we can. We can't do anything for Tessa, since she's gone who-knows-where, but we can let the rest of them out. And us, of course." By 'the rest of them,' she meant the re-captured experiments who Eris had been torturing for the past several months.

"Oh! Ok." Navek said, finally understanding her. Hey, it was the middle of the night and he had just been woken up afterall. "So, what do you want me to do?" He asked, eager to help.

"Just let me do what I have to..." Thistlen paused, and her ecpression shifted to her usual, meek visage. "I'll have to... well.... I found out where Eris installs the chips... Just under your left temple, next to a major vein... She makes a crack in your skull, and puts the chip in to seal the crack." She looked embarassed. "I read her notes." She paused. "So, I'll have to... cut you. To get it out, and I'll have to use a bit of poison to seal up the crack afterward.. But don't just say yes, because if I miss, you'll probably bleed to death..." This was a HUGE speech for Thistlen.

Navek looking slightly disturbed by her speech, wondering just what his chances were if she were to preform this little 'operation.' He thought about it for a moment, going over the pros and cons, thinking over eveything Thistlen had told him, as well as everything he had experienced. "Alright." He finally said with a definate nod after a minute of silence. "I trust you, and have faith in you. I would appreciate the removal of the chip from my brain."

Thistlen hesitated, then nodded. "All right," she agreed, reached for his head with her hand, and swiped at the left side of his face. She didn't miss. There was the tiniest chink as the microchip hit the floor, and then the spatter of a few drops of blood. Thistlen shook her hand off. "Sorry," she apologized, as though she hadn't just freed him from Eris' oh-so-lovely clutches.

Navek winced. It was a bit painful to have someone cut into your head. But, he knew it was worth it if he could be freed forever from Eris' clutches. Besides, it's not like he hadn't dealt with pain before. "Thank you." He said, really greatfull for her help as he looked at the small chip on the floor.

"Come on," Thistlen said nervously. She was already at the door. "I locked Eris in the bad-bad room, but it won't be long until she gets out, and we have to leave before she can catch us." In fact, Eris had many bad-bad rooms. She just usually used her favorite. Thistlen had had to break into all of them to let the others out. "Jadin's showing the others the way to the Guild- I found their spirits-" Eris had put them in bottles- "-and sent them along." Eris had found a certain wavelength that, when sent to the chip, would shut down all but the most vital parts of the brain, and she had also found a way to snatch the spirits right away and contain them. Thistlen did not like this. This meant trouble. Thistlen had decided to prevent this trouble.

"Ok. Did you remove your chip too?" Navek asked, quietly following her to and out the door as he thought about everything she had just told him. It seemed as if everything would work out nicely, especially if Eris' was contained just long enough for them to escape.

Thistlen was silent for a moment. "Yes," she said, then. "This way's out." She led him out the door, into the dark. It was a new moon, so there was almost no light at all.
Jadin had directed the very battered and rather confused experiments- who had all been heavily drugged by Eris both to disorient them and to prevent them from Changing or using magic, all of which would help to prevent their escape. To torture and humiliate, all of them had had the hair yanked out of their head- by hand. It was very painful. In any case, Jadin had gone back to take the rear. The experiments moved forward, as best they could. Ary leaned on Amy, who was much less affected by the drugs than she, the entire way there. They made it first, and went to sit in a corner of the Main Hall. They did this, because Ary wasn't coherent enough to instruct Amy otherwise, and Amy had no idea what else to do. Ceredin had been told to go somewhere safe. Where was safe? She was very confused. She wasn't even quite sure where she was. But she did know that she had to do something. She made her staggering way through the halls, came to a very familiar door whose hinges had been separated from the wall more than once, leaned on this door, and fell over as the battered hinges gave way. Poor Calyx would be very surprised to wake up to a huge crash and the sound of splintering wood. Amaranth, unlike the others, was very, very angry. She didn't want to believe what Eris had said, but if you are drugged and locked in a dark room for a very long time, you will believe anything if only to make it better. She went straight to her own room, seized Sonya out of her cradle, and retired to a corner of the room. Sonya stared at her mother, and hiccupped. No fire. Yet.

"That's good. I'm glad you thought of all this." Navek replied, following her out into the dark. He could hardly see, seeing as there was no moon and hardly any stars. Not that they provided a lot of light anyway. He hoped that all of the rest had made it safely back to the Guild, he was sure Jadin had gotten them there quickly. He grinned to himself, despite the current situtaion, glad that Thistlen had outsmarted Eris and they could all be free from her horrible and twisted mind.
