Shimmering Comet Wey
The World has change over the past two hundred years. Most of Pern’s history has been forgotten along with the Weyrs and the dragons. The only history left is off the years before the disaster and some don’t think it is real. Our history tell of a red star that rained down thread like creatures that killed everything that they touch and of dragons that teamed up with riders to kill the menace. Dragons have been gone for over a hundred years along with the Weyrs in the North.
It has been over two hundred years since the comets hit Pern. There were six in all that landed and changed our planet with its mutations. The comets hit in different parts, one landed right in the middle of the northern continent and it was the biggest of them all. When it hit it destroyed more then half the Weyrs in the North from its impact that sent vibrations all over and made the stone structures crumble. Two hit in the South Continent that were about the same size. One hit in the far east right before it meet the sea and the other hit right our side of Southern Weyr, destroying it on impact. Another hit in the Northern part of the North, right in the mountains, and the last two hit in the opposite seas and sent walls of water at the continents and destroying more holds. The comets had a great affect on the world after they hit. The North went into a drought that lasted for twenty-years and destroyed most of their fields and forests. It took almost a hundred years for all the wildlife to grow back in the North. Most people traveled to the South to take refuge but when it started to grow back they came with it.
The South wasn’t as much affected but it did have a few changes. The barren lands started to sprout stalks of grass so people could live there. The eastern side started to loss trees but it wasn’t destroyed much. More land became the sea but other islands appeared to. Dragons were affected the most by the change. As the comets hit most of them were wiped out in the aftermath by the weyrs collapsing in the sickness that followed for three years. The dragons that did survive just disappeared one day and never came back. They were thought to be extinct until some found egg shells in a cave. The dragons had become feral and thus adapted to live with out Perneasians.
Humans were changed as well but not all of them. When the comets hit they changed the DNA of a few humans that would give birth to those who would pass the change down to their children until it finally came out. Some can you can see the change others you can’t. Those who do see the change in it because their DNA has been mixed with those of animals. Thus they have body parts of those animals and a few abilities. Others have gained powers over different things, like the elements. These mutations are still rare but there are a lot that are in hiding because they fear what would happen to them if they show their powers.
Now as a new year comes the deadly thread has returned and the people of Pern are very afraid. The dragons they once had are gone, or so they think, and thus they have noone to protect them. As the deadly thread falls over the northern shore they see colors appear in the sky. THE DRAGONS HAVE RETURNED!! But they are different as they have new colors and they even have riders.
Large forests have grown up in the North while the South's forests have started to decline in the past years. A giant rift was opened up during the comets hit and caved have been dwelled into the sides. Oceans have taken over the coasts of the North but islands have been brought to the surface. Lakes have dried up in parts as their water was drained to marshes in the west.
