Kalli duly observed the broken-down shacks that stood in front of her. Esschae was at her side, her paws slowly dampening in the snow. "I don't like it," the Fae Wolf muttered, lifting one forepaw and shaking the slush off of it.
Kalli gave a slight smile. "Don't worry. It'll be gone soon. C'mon; I don't want anyone following us." She glanced back at the slushy trail her fiery Bonded had made. "...Maybe we won't be able to help that."
Esschae snorted, but said nothing and loped ahead, past the shacks and stopped short at the forested mountainside behind the crumbling buildings. "Coming?" she asked shortly. Kalli bounded after her, closing the space between them with almost soundless strides.
Kalli easily slipped between the almost-frozen tree trucks, Esschae trailing almost protectively behind her. As if on an afterthought to dispel this image, the Fae Wolf darted ahead, half-melted snow coming unstuck from her paws.
Up the mountainside the trekked, Kalli taking twisting turns, -to send someone off their trail, or was this the right way? Esschae wondered- lithely clambering over the snow-covered boulders that traced the incline. Esschae let herself fall behind, easily scaling the trip with long strides and plowing through the snow with her furry chest. She was made for these conditions, but the conditions, the Fae Wolf noted, were not made for her. Slush and water littered her trail.
Suddenly, Kalli stopped at a low wall of boulders. Curious, Esschae leapt forward, easily clearing the wall with a bound. Kalli gave a startled noise, and yanked Esschae away from a snow-covered plant by the scruff of her neck. She went down on one knee, her eyes hard. "Do not touch any of these plants. They could, and will kill you."
"...Very well," Esschae said stiffly, and whipped away.
Obviously, the pair had yet to trust each other.
Kalli slowly went around, brushing the snow and ice from each plant, mentally going over each in her head. Nightshade, belladonna, yew, mistletoe...
..Kalli? I think you might want to see this.[/I]
Kalli looked up impatiently, her eyes snapping. Then she realized that Esschae hadn't spoken aloud. With an inaudible growl, she rose, swiftly and quietly, creeping over to her Spirit.
Oh, they're done.... she though furiously. Two of the newer recruits were bent over a daphne berry bush, trying to set it on fire, obviously without success. Kalli soundlessly drew her sword and one of her daggers. Not poisonous though. Nerinick would give her the usual lecture if she killed one of them, something about not killing the replacements.
Esschae's hackles rose. This was going to be interesting.
The pair leapt forward together, Esschae easily pinning one to the ground, while Kalli had hers against a tree, her sword at his neck.
"Looks like you need an education. You do not come anywhere near my garden. You will stay very far away, or I will want to know why not. Understand?" she underlined her lecture with increasing pressure of her sword. The recruit gasped, trying to air.
"I said, understand?"
The recruit barely managed to nod. Kalli pulled the sword away and kicked the recruit in the ribs, smirking as he ran off. She glanced at Esschae, whose jaws were covered in blood. "You didn't.."
"I didn't. It was just his shoulder," Esschae said with a shrug.
Kalli shook her head, and slipped back into her garden, glancing behind her once to see the other recruit running away, one arm dangling limply. "Well.... The lecture won't be as bad, seeing as he won't die if he gets seen to right away. C'mon."
