Amaranth sat on her bed, fiddling with the chain on which hung the ring. The ring. This was very... a very strange thing for her to think about. She'd known that Zeth... liked her. She'd known that he... said he loved her. But words didn't mean much to her any more. Words never meant anything. Words meant, 'I'll say this so you'll believe me, but as soon as I've gotten what I want, I'm gone.' It had happened before. 'I love you,' he said, and then the next morning he was gone. That was what happened. That was the way it worked. So strange. Why, then, wasn't Zeth going? Didn't he know that that was what he was supposed to do? She was happy, that was for sure, but she couldn't help some uneasyness. She wanted, so badly, to completely trust him, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. It was frightening. It was too difficult. If someone actually wanted to stay with her, what was she going to do? She knew she loved him, but what could she give him? Wasn't she supposed to have something that he wanted? Wasn't that the way it worked? She couldn't think of anything that she could give... She definitely wanted to marry him. She wanted to be with him, forever. But what if, some day, he turned around and looked at her, and she wasn't what he wanted to see? Someday she wouldn't be good enough anymore. So what would happen then? Disturbing thoughts.

A knock was heard on Amaranth's door as Zeth stood outside it, waiting patiently for her to respond. It still seemed a bit sureal to him that he had actually proposed. Of course, he wanted more than anything to marry her and be with her forever. He loved her more than life itself. The setting of the propaosal wasn't exactly what he had planned on. He had planned on something a bit more romantic than a graveyard. But, the opportunity had presented itself rather nicely. He didn't want Amaranth to think that no one would want to marry her when he would give anything to do just that. But he didn't have to, she had accepted. And that made him happier than any other time in his life. He just hoped she was as happy as he was. He knew that sometimes she was unsure of things, and doubted his feelings, but they were definately real. And he would always love her, that was for sure.

Amaranth jumped. What nasty thoughts I have been thinking! she scolded herself. I definitely will be able to find something I can give to Zeth! Yes! I will not let him be unhappy! Thus decided (but still entirely wrong), she got to her feet and opened the door, plastering a huge smile on her face when she saw who it was. She was always plastering smiles. She couldn't ever just... smile. She was thinking things that she didn't want to be thinking... She wanted to believe that Zeth meant everything he said, and it wasn't kind of her at all to disbelieve him. Well, all she could do was try. "Oh!" she said, brightly. "Zeth! I am so glad to see you!" Then she started to panic. What if he was there to take it back?! That was it! He was there to take it back! Of course! It made sense! Of course he didn't really want to marry her... She'd been so silly... He'd probably been confused. (This was her excuse for everything that people did. Oh, dear, he was trying to kill me. He must have been confused. Oh, dear, he was stealing my bow. (It was, after all, a rather nice bow- she'd made it herself, she should know.) He must have been confused. I am very sorry that I was angry... Very confused.) She flinched as she came to this 'realization,' but the smile only faltered for a moment before she pulled the ring off the chain and held it out to him. "It is fine!" she said, trying to remain cheerful. "I understand. You may have it back, now." She choked on the 'now' and her voice rose an octave, nearly a squeak. "Oh, dear, I am sorry," she said, keeping the smile firmly in place. A smile was the best defense.

Zeth looked at the ring in question. He was confused. Did she not want to marry him? Was that why she giving it back? Did she think that he wanted it back? Well that didn't make any sense. Of course he didn't want it back. "Why would I want to take it back?" He asked. "I gave it to you because I want to marry you and spend the rest of my life by your side. There isn't anything that could change that or make me want to take that ring back." He told her, taking her hand in his and closing her fingers around the ring in her palm.

((XD Poor, poor Avi. Amaranth has a bit of difficulty in really believing what people tell her.))
"Oh..." Amaranth said, looking down at her hand. "I am sorry. Well. Then. Um. Yes. All right." She couldn't think of anything to say. What could she say? Sorry, I don't trust you and think that the second you get whatever it is you want out of me you'll leave me? Not the sort of thing you just.. burst out. "Thank you," she opted for, softly. "I am sorry," she repeated. "Then... um.. why are you here?" People didn't often just visit her. They usually had a reason. Like paperwork. Paperwork. The incarnation of pure evil. Forget Vintaph. Paperwork was much worse.

More apologies. Zeth mentally laughed. Though it bothered him slightly that she was willing to give back the ring, before he had even said anything. Did she doubt his intentions that much? Did she think he was going to just leave? No chance of that. "No reason really." He responded to her question with a small shrug. "Just thought I'd drop by." He said casually. In fact, there really wasn't a reason he was there. None specifically anyway.

((You know what? I'm going to stop obsessing over this relation and the Paden/Ary one. Because now it only really ticks me off that your chars are so who-knows-what. I mean shouldn't Ary be bloody happy that Paden did that for her? SHe knows what he's given up! And this one I'm only beginning to find stupid because every single thread it's the same thing. >.< Amaranth: Oh no! You don't love me! Zeth: -woebegone-))

((XD Poor, poor Avi. We've driven her to distraction. Don't worry. It'll get less upsetting soon. ^^ Chione: -laughs in corner- Mar: Silence, Chione. Chione: NEVER! Muahahaha! -run in crazy circles and climbs up wall Mar: ...?))
"Oh," Amaranth repeated. Now she was embarassed. How silly of her! "I am sorry. Well. I am glad to see you. Please, come in." She stepped back into her room to allow him entry, and closed the door behind him. She knew it wasn't quite proper to be in a closed room with a man, but she was engaged to him, wasn't she? So it was probably fine.

(( She knew it wasn't quite proper to be in a closed room with a man, but she was engaged to him, wasn't she? So it was probably fine. Yes, it's usually fine then XD)) Zeth entered the room, smiling at her. "So, how have you been?" He asked her casually, turning to face her. A lot had occured lately he realized. Everything seemed crazy all the time. He hoped things might calm down a bit. Around here? Most likely not.

"I have been fine," Amaranth said. "I have been catching up on paperwork. You would not believe how much I missed! It is very difficult to catch up with it. I have been meaning to go and train, but I simply have not had the time. How have you been?"

Zeth laughed. "O yes, the paperwork." He said. "I forgot how much you had to do." He said, teasing a bit. "Well, if you ever need any help with that, just tell me and I'd be more than happy to help you out." He offered. "And me? Better than ever."

"Oh, it is all right," Amaranth said, waving a hand. "And I am glad you have been doing well. It is good that you have been doing well. Yes. Very good. Kaos was very smug over the entire... thing."

"That really doesn't surprise me." Zeth replied with a grin. "Not at all. He was smug beforehand. I can't imagine him now." He said with a small laugh.

"Yes, I can imagine. He forced me to kick him very hard in the knee." Amaranth nodded sagely. "And I did not even apologize! Now I find myself feeling somewhat guilty, but he deserved it. In any case, I am actually staying with Uni in town, but I have returned here to finish up my work and to visit Telly again."
