The crisp air almost literally took Kagami's breath away. She held her cloak closer to her body for warmth, and shrugged her bag onto her shoulder. Elena was trailing behind her, holding Nimbus and cooing at him quietly. A full moon was high in the midnight sky and it lit a silver path from the mountains for Kagami and her Spirit.
She was ready to leave this place, the Collective, and that's what she was doing. Running away.

Nate had managed to randomly pop up, and Cecily circled above on her wings before dropping down next to him.
"Do I knooooooooooooooooow you?"

Kagami jumped about a mile; Nate had startled her.
"Nate!" she exclaimed. "You startled me!"
"You startled us!" repeated Elena, then she giggled and sauntered over by Nate. "Hi, Nate. We're running away. What are you doing out here?"
Kagami just blinked, then she got angry and started yelling at Elena. "Elena! Are you crazy??? You don't tell a Collective member that we're trying to escape from the Collective! Why am I shouting?!"

"Because you like cheese?" asked Nate hopefully, seeing a very clear connection between cheese and running away.

Kagami sighed, her breath appearing ghost-white in the cold cold air. "No. That is not why I'm shouting... Though cheese is very good."
"Very good!" echoed a giggling Elena.
"You're... not going to tell anyone about my running away will you? Because I don't want you to. I might get my head cut off..." She looked worriedly at Nate.

"I could cut off your head," said Nate rather unhelpfully. Then his pale, pale, pale eyes lit up. "oh! You wanna play a game? We could play chess! I like chess!"

She slapped a hand to her forehead, looking very nervous and tired and woebegone. "Nate...," she said in a small voice. "I've not got time for a game, especially one such as chess!"
"We've got to hurry!" said Elena.

"Not even tic-tac-toe?"
Now Nate was looking increasingly sorrowful and dejected, to the point where Cecily sighed an leaned against him for comfort.
"But you aren't hurrying! Which means you might have tiem for tic-tac-toe....?"

Kagami looked over her shoulder, back at the now-small buildings and mansion that made up the Collective headquarters. The night was pretty much quite except for her and Nate.
"I guess I have time for one game of tic-tac-toe," she sighed/said, too nervous to argue. Besides, this was the last time that she was going to really get to see Nate, for now, anyway.
"One game!" said the Siren cheerfully, and she sat right in the snow, Nimbus asleep in her lap.

Insanely happy.
Which was sort of rhetorical seeing as Nate was insane.
"FWEE! TICTACTOE!"
Promptly he sat down and drew the board, humming some made up tune.

Kagami sat next to her friend the insane healer, and forced herself to think positively and calm down. "Okay," she said. "Who's X?"

Nate considered this.
"Oh. I dunno. I suppose I'll be X."
He drew an X in the middle, oblivious that this was the easiest way to produce a Cat game. And cat games made him mad.

Kagami sighed, not wanting to lose because of a dumb move, so she blocked Nate's diagnal pathway with and O in the upper left-hand corner... She could tell that this game would end soon...
