Zeth blinked. "I'm sorry to hear that." He said. Now he understood what Demitri had meant by 'People vanish all the time- most of the time they don't come back. Ever.' And everything else he had said about people randomly dissappearing. He almost felt bad for complaining so much when his sister had dissappeared. At least he knew Amaranth was comming back and had left a note. Is it possible she didn't want to be found or could still be alive? Flame suddenly asked Demitri, bitting the water bug. Flame... Zeth mentally scolded.

"She was seven years old at the time," Demitri said. "And I was so terrified when we moved that she could still be alive, stuck somewhere, or maybe have gotten lost and come home to find us all gone that my parents had to literally drag me out."

"Have you ever gone back? To your old home?" Zeth asked curiosuly.
((Can't think.......))

"Not recently," Demitri said. "It was probably destroyed forever ago, though. Actually, it nearly got destroyed every time the wind blew." He grinned. "Not a very good place, but it functioned, mostly."

"Oh. Well, at least it served its purpose right?" Zeth said with a grin. "Do you like it here at the Guild? I assume you were here, since you bonded, and then left, correct?"

"Yes, it did. And yes, I've always liked it here. I came here, erm, eight years ago- I think it was eight. Yes. Eight or so. And then I Bonded to Norai over there-" Norai was chasing the bugs around the room, yipping excitedly- "-and decided I could do more good outside the Guild than in, so I left."

"What do you mean?" Zeth asked curiously, in reference to his comment about being able to do more outside the Guild. He continued to make the little bugs fly around, zooming right past Norai's nose. Flame chased after them, snapping his beak at them and giving them an excited chirp if they got to close.

Norai yipped in delight and sped up, then nearly turned a backward somersault in the air as one flew over her head. I say nearly because she almost managed it- instead, she fell flat on her back, whimpered, got up again, and continued the chase. "Hm? Oh, well, there were plenty of Healers and mages here, but not enough everywhere else. I figured I could help people."

"That makes sense." Zeth agreed, smiling as he saw Norai chase the bugs around, and as Flame paused in his chase as she fell on her back before resuming as well. "Did you get that chance, to help people? It's great that you wanted to."

"Well, some, but mostly I ended up running away from people who wanted to kill me." Norai had caught one of the bugs, and, without the satisfying crunch of chewing on a real bug, was highly dissapointed.

"Kill you?" Zeth asked, surprised by the notion. "Why on Kinuva would they want to do that? You don't seem like the kind of guy that has people after his blood." Another big zoomed out of the water glass, flying towards Norai and landing on her nose as another one sat on the top of Flame's head.

Norai yipped delightedly- today was one of her 'childish' days- and snapped at the bug on her nose. Which was difficult, since it was on her nose. "Well, there were two main reasons: one, there was a rather high number of men who thought that my courtesy to their, er, significant others meant that I was trying to steal them. Honestly, though, I was only trying to be courteous. Two, I traveled very far away, you know, and the farther you get from the Guild the less and less tolerant they are of magic. In some places, it's regarded as the mark of evil and they'll execute you for it. In the most horrible ways, too. Either they figured out I was a mage or I stumbled upon an execution and freed the mage they were trying to kill... Actually, often they didn't even have a mage. But if someone accuses you, you're dead, no matter what you do."

Zeth winced. "Oh, I see now. Rather unfortunate isn't it? I mean, if only people would at least try to understand a little about magic. It can do so much good. Sure, if the wrong person is skilled, it can do horrible and disasterous things. But really, some people can be so ignorant and judgmental. There are so many people that think magic is evil and uncontrollable, and only results in distuction and misery. It's a shame. If more people knew and were willing to learn, I think a lot of bad things couls possibly be avoided."

"Like several hundred diseases, horrible deaths due to wounds that could be healed in an instant by a proper mage... There are countless benefits- of course, these benefits could be very easily turned against the innocent, but if mages are properly trained..."

"Exactly! Given the proper instruction, magic could be one of the most useful things humans posess. There are almost lititless possibilites with magic. If only we could make people understand."
