Hmm. He was a fairly decent mage, then. One of the handles to a drawer slid to the inside of a drawer (although it was really the outside) with extreme reluctance, still leaving the other four handles up top. The carvings in protest seemed to speed up and reverse, taunting Era and Demitri.

Demitri frowned at the desk. "You, sir or madam, are incredibly rude. Please put yourself to rights at once." And, amazingly, though with the same air of reluctance and indignance as before, the desk did. "Thank you." He looked at Era. "Can you see anything else wrong with it?"

The carvings were still zooming around. Well, to hell with them. Amazingly, they stopped. "Nope. Thank you."

Demitri beamed at her. "You're welcome. But I didn't really do anything- it was your desk who decided to fix itself." He patted the now inanimate wood. "I think it's a good desk, at heart." He paused. "If that makes any sense at all. Do you want me to renew the magic for you?"

His cheerfulness irked her. Rather seriously, she said, "It was made from a tree in the heart of the woods. And that would be good." So would you shutting up, she thought, more depressed at the fact that she knew he wouldn't.

Demitri saw the expression on her face. "Oh... uh... I'm sorry. I'll just, ah, go away now." He edged nervously toward the door. She looked like she was about to kill someone. He wasn't quite sure what he'd done, but..

"You don't need to," she said, sounding strangled and sitting down on the bed. Saulin, worried, wound up in her lap to see if she was alright.

Demitri edged back over. "Are you... all right...?" That was an idiotic question. It was obvious that she wasn't all right. But it was the traditional question, and the only one he could think of.

"Nope. And I don't suspect I ever will be," she said calmly, mournfully. Careful fingers groomed through Aulin's wings, freeing loose feathers.

"Is there... anything I might be able to do to help you?"

"No," Era answered, brutally honest as she started on the next wing.

"Oh.. er... do you want me to go away now?"

"No. If you stayed..." Really, it was saddening to her. She had been in minimal contact with people and had Saulin (or soem predessor, they did die) to talk to....so talkingto another person was nice...but it reminded her of how insecure she was.

Demitri blinked. If he stayed what? Oh, well. "Okay. Hey, should we finish getting you unpacked and then go to the Underworks? I'd expect you're hungry after all that unpacking..." He wanted to make polite conversation. Anything to maybe cheer her up.

"I suppose. It's all outside. Outside as in outside the gates of the Guild." Having composed herself, she transferred saulin to her arm, where he coiled tightly without breaking off circulation.
