At this point, Amaranth's heart had definitely given out. When she heard the words, she lost it. Leaping to her feet, face white with fury and wet with tears, she screamed. "WHERE ARE YOU, YOU BASTARD?!" she howled, sending out random bursts of energy. "WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! I WILL KILL[/b] YOU!" The hallway was suddenly cast into light; Amaranth herself looked ready to explode. "YOU COWARD! GET OUT HERE! NOW! I'LL KILL YOU!" She had her bow up and notched, though in such a confined space, where she couldn't even see her adversary, it wouldn't help.
At this point, Ceredin heard. "Crap!" she hissed, and, standing up, took off at a run, dragging Calyx behind her.

Serge flinched at the blast of light and cast a spell to protect his eyes. "I think he's gone, Amaranth," called the warrior.

Corrine's head shot up at the voice. "Oh, no..." She bolted around the corner, up some stairs, and around another corner, and.. Almost fainted. "Oh.. my... Amaranth, I'm..." She couldn't even speak. She took a step forward, slowly.

Amaranth didn't hear any of this- she was too busy breaking down all the walls in the vicinity. She didn't care who they were, where they were, she had failed, she was going to find them, she had failed, she was going to kill them, no no no, she had failed! It was her fault, she shouldn't have left him alone in the hall and now he was dead, just like the rest of them! No! No no no!

Serge lifted his left hand and let a ball of fire shoot out and fly at Amaranth to knock her down. His right hand twitched and created a shield of fire around everything else.

Amaranth had a glowing shield up the moment she sensed the magical energy buildup and whipped around, ready to kill whoever was firing on her, but stopped herself before actually murdering Serge. Seeing that he had only intended to stop her from further destruction, she dropped her bow and the arrow. They fell with a clatter to the ground. Her knees hit the floor less than a second later, and she covered her face with her hands. The red-hot fury had faded away, defeated by the despair. After a moment, she stood and returned to the... to the body. She kneeled next to it, face tight, and brushed a lock of hair out of Zeth's face, and closed his eyes so they wouldn't stare at her, glassy in the pale face. Only then did it manage to hit her- she hadn't said it. She had felt it for the longest time. Practically since she had met him. But she'd never said it. She'd even denied it. And now it was too late. She ran a trembling hand over his face. "I am sorry," she whispered. "So sorry." She leaned over him, close to the unhearing ear. "I love you, too." Then she stood, and the fury returned- but now it was ice, not fire. She picked up her bow, and her arrow, and left. She was going to find them. And she would make them pay.

Serge looked at Zeth and sighed. Nothing would be found of the killer except the knife wound. Serge wrote a quick note in fire on the wall and followed after Amaranth to make sure she stay alive. Too many had died already.

Amaranth wanted to turn, wanted to scream at Serge not to leave him all alone, but realized that the thought was completely irrational. Dead was dead. It wasn't getting any better. Or any worse. The thought was gone, and cold rationality sunk in. Whoever did this is going to be punished, she thought, and kept going.

Serge looked over his shoulder once at Zeth and then turned to follow Amaranth again.

Calyx didn't really let himself be dragged however as he quickly started running as well and was keeping pace with Ceredin. He turned to her as they were bolting down the hall. "Do you think it's another murder?" He asked panic and worry evident in his voice.

Ceredin had lost the sound, but now she was following the scent of blood. "I know exactly who it was yelling and I don't think she'd curse that much if it wasn't, Ca-" they had reached the hall, and she saw the body, "-oh shit." She skidded to a stop and turned around. "Calyx, don't look-" Too late.

Calyx was thinking the same thing as she was and quickly pulled her against him, facing away from the body, his own eyes wide with terror as he saw the crumpled body of the young sorceror surrounded by liters of blood.

"Well," Ceredin said, stomach twisting on behalf of her friend, "I guess we know why she was screaming bloody murder." It wasn't a joke, but it sounded like it might have been a pun since Amaranth had, indeed, been screaming about a bloody murder and what she'd like to do to the murderer. Which was another bloody murder. Had the situation not been what it was, it would have been morbidly funny. "Gods, that's awful. The poor thing. Both of 'em." The dead one and the one left behind. How horrid. "Well, we probably won't have to do anything now but run screaming before she blows the whole place up." That one had been a joke. Sort of. To distract her. "I'm gonna see if I can catch a scent here."

Corrine was flattened against a wall, trying to make herself as small a target as possible while Amaranth was in a fit of rage. After she had calmed down, Corrine somehow managed to pull herself away from the wall. She tried to get her eyes to leave the body, but they were beyond her control. She hoped she wasn't going to puke.
